I sat beside 7 year old Raichell today during tutoring time. She is a 2nd grader who comes to tutoring to improve her (Spanish) reading comprehension. I coached her through some of her worksheets, and prompted her with the question, “What are belts used for?” She immediately answered, “For hitting.”
This is why I do what I do. I don’t presume to be a savior to these children, but I will show them the face of the ever-loving, ever-just God, who knows their everyday pain and seeks to draw them to Himself.
“The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right, his ears are open to their cries for help. But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil, he will erase their memory from the earth. The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
Psalm 34: 15-18
